Men’s Tennis Blanks Visiting Fordham

NEWARK, NJ — The NJIT men's tennis team earned its second consecutive 7-0 sweep on Sunday afternoon, shutting out visiting Fordham at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

The Highlanders secured the doubles point before winning all six singles matches to complete the dominant victory.

Wil Jenkins and Soma Fukuhara opened doubles play with a 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot. Jenkins went on to post a second victory on the day, defeating Mateusz Gradzki 6-2, 7-6 at first singles. Fukuhara followed with a strong performance at No. 2 singles, earning a 7-6, 6-3 decision over Filip Horak.

At second doubles, Riccardo Campagnola and Maxime Hankins cruised to a 6–2 victory. Campagnola later claimed a straight-sets win at fourth singles, 7-5, 6-3, against William Lokier, while Hankins added a 6-2, 6-3 win at sixth singles over Diego Cueto de Romana.

The tandem of Nejc Skorjanc and Severin Risan completed the doubles sweep with a 7-6 victory at No. 3. Skorjanc also delivered a three-set win at third singles, outlasting Dhillon Virdee-Oakley 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Newcomer Yerassyl Bakhtiyar rounded out the scoring with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory at fifth singles over Dhananjay Karthik Athreya.

NJIT returns to action with four consecutive home matches, beginning Friday against Navy at 2 p.m., followed by Saint Joseph's on Saturday at 4 p.m.
