NEWARK, NJ – Sophomore
Allison Cannon scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead NJIT past New Hampshire, 55-47, Thursday evening at the Joel & Diane Bloom Wellness & Events Center, completing the regular-season sweep.
NJIT improved to 15-10 overall and evened its conference record at 6-6, matching the second-highest win total of the Division I era. New Hampshire fell to 8-16 overall and 2-9 in league play.
The teams were tied 16-16 after one quarter, and NJIT carried a narrow 31-30 edge into halftime. The Highlanders created separation in the third, holding the Wildcats to just six points and opening the half on a 7-2 run to push the lead to nine, 45-36.
New Hampshire trimmed the deficit to four twice in the fourth quarter, but NJIT closed strong, scoring the final five points at the free-throw line to seal the eight-point victory.
Cannon shot 8-of-13 from the field, while senior Alejandra Zuniga added 16 points, knocking down 4-of-7 from three-point range. Olivia Kulyk contributed nine points and Marissa Gingrich added seven.
Madilyn Dogs led the Highlanders on the glass with nine rebounds, followed by Ava Locklear with eight. NJIT recorded eight blocks, including three from Cannon and two apiece from Kulyk and Locklear.
Maggie Cavanaugh paced New Hampshire with 16 points, and Eva DeCent added 13.
