NEWARK, NJ – Three Highlanders scored in double-figures led by sophomore
Olivia Kulyk as the Highlanders dominated visiting Maine, 63-42, in America East women's basketball action at the Joel & Diane Bloom Wellness & Events Center.
NJIT (16-10, 7-6 America East) split the regular season series with Maine and matched the wins total in the NJIT Division I era.
Maine led a 12-9 lead after the first 10 minutes but the Highlanders began to build a lead in the second quarter, taking a five–point lead at the half, 27-22.
NJIT's lead extended through a strong third quarter surge as the Highlanders outscored Maine, 21-11, to take firm control of the game, 48-33.
The Highlanders scored 36 second-half points and held Maine to only 20 points in the home victory.
Kulyk connected on three triples and grabbed nine rebounds followed by Ava Locklear combined for a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Marissa Gingrich contributed 10 points, while Allison Cannon chipped in eight points and dished five assists.
For the Black Bears, Adrianna Smith led all scorers with 24 points and 15 rebounds in the effort.
Next Up
NJIT will conclude the America East road slate next week when the Highlanders visit UAlbany (February 19 at 6:30pm) and Vermont (February 21 at 4pm).
