NEWARK, NJ – NJIT sophomore
Diogo Rebelo and freshman
Zain Thompson have earned America East Conference weekly honors, the league announced Monday. Rebelo was named America East Player of the Week, while Thompson earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors.
Rebelo delivered a record-setting performance in NJIT's 6-3 victory over New Hampshire, tallying one goal and four assists for a career-high six points. His four assists established a new NJIT Division I single-game record and tied the America East single-game record.
Rebelo finished one assist shy of the NJIT all-time single-game record of five, set by Myron Worobec against Stevens in 1964. His performance puts him in a tie for second on the program's all-time single-game list alongside Andy Handwerker (1962) and Jose Dias (1974).
His six-point outing was the most by an NJIT player in a single match since Regsan Watkins recorded six points on three goals against Stony Brook on April 2, 2021.
The four assists in a single match is also tied for first in the NCAA.
Thompson also made his mark in the win over New Hampshire, scoring his third career goal. The recognition marks his second America East Rookie of the Week honor this season.
