Men’s Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight


NEWARK, NJ —
The NJIT men's volleyball team extended its win streak to four matches Friday night with a 3-1 victory over visiting LIU inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.

The Highlanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead with set wins of 25-18 and 25-20 in the first two frames. LIU responded with a 25-22 win in the third, but NJIT sealed the match with a 25-19 victory in the fourth.

As a team, NJIT hit .327 and were led by defending EIVA Offensive Player of the Week Andre Aleixo, pacing the attack with 17 kills on 33 swings, hitting .394. Wiktor Nowak added 13 kills, while Parker Moorhead chipped in nine on .333 hitting.

Setter Bruno Figueiredo paced the offense with 39 assists and added six digs. Nowak and Alex Heins combined for four blocks in the win.

NJIT set the tone early in the opening frame, racing to an 8–3 lead and stretching the advantage to 14-6. LIU closed within five at 17-12, but the Highlanders finished strong to take the set, 25-18.

The momentum carried into the second as NJIT built leads of 7-2 and 18-12. LIU cut the deficit to 21-18, but the Highlanders closed out the set, 25-20, to take a 2-0 advantage behind a .458 hitting percentage.

LIU controlled the third set throughout, earning a 25–22 win to extend the match.

In the fourth, the teams were tied at 11 before NJIT pulled away, scoring eight of the next 11 points to take control. The Highlanders pushed the lead to 22-15 and closed out the match with a 25–19 win.  NJIT finished with a .556 hitting percentage with 11 kills, one error on 18 swings.

NJIT returns to action quickly, hosting FDU on January 31 at 5 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for 6 p.m.
