NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's volleyball team extended its win streak to five matches with a 3-1 victory over FDU on Saturday night at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.
NJIT, now 5-5 overall and a perfect 4-0 at home, hit .300 as a team in the win, taking the match by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-16.
Three Highlanders reached double-figures in kills, led by Wiktor Nowak with 14, while Andre Aleixo and Parker Moorhead each added 10. Middle blocker Daniel Latkowski was efficient and active at the net, finishing with nine kills on 14 swings (.571) and four total blocks (two solo, two assists).
Sophomore setter Bruno Figueiredo directed the offense with 38 assists and chipped in five digs. Defensively, Nowak led all players with 11 digs, while libero Diego Lopez recorded eight.
NJIT opened the match strong, building a 10-5 lead in the first set and later pulling away with a 4-1 run to close out a 25-20 win while hitting .344.
The Highlanders maintained control in the second set, holding off a late FDU push before scoring the final two points to take another 25-20 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
FDU responded in the third, using a 5-1 run midway through the set to seize momentum and closing on an 8-4 stretch to earn a 25-21 win.
NJIT quickly regained control in the fourth frame, jumping out to a 7-3 lead and never looked back, finishing the match with a convincing 25-16 win. NJIT combined for a .524 hitting percentage.
Laydon Biro paced FDU with 13 kills on a .308 hitting percentage, along with five blocks and two digs.
