NEWARK, NJ–Freshman Andre Aleixo has been selected EIVA Defensive Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Aleixo posted a solid all-around weekend as the Highlanders earned their first two victories of the season, taking a pair of matches from Jessup (CA).

For the week, the outside hitter totaled 24 kills on .367 hitting with five aces, two blocks and 15 digs 

Aleixo combined for eight kills, four aces and nine digs in a 3-1 win over the Warriors.

The next night, in a 3-0 sweep, Aleixo collected 16 kills with one error to hit .682, adding six digs. 

He was 45 for 47 in service receptions and averaged 3.43 kills per set, and has reached double digits in kills in four of the first seven matches of his collegiate career. 

This is the first EIVA weekly honor of Aleixo's career.

NJIT will return to action next weekend when the Highlanders travel to Loretto, PA, and take on Daemen on Saturday (4pm) and Saint Francis U (1pm).
