SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The NJIT women's volleyball team split double header at Seton Hall Classic taking down Central Connecticut State in five sets as Senior Doga Emil picks up her 1,000th career dig.

Match 1 vs Iona:

The Highlanders resilience and fight was on full display on Friday morning at Walsh Gymnasium taking on the Iona Gaels in the first match of the weekend. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the match. After dropping a close set one, the Highlanders rallied late to secure the second set for a win. This trend continued set after set.

Despite the effort, the Highlanders fell just short, dropping the final set to the Gaels in what a back and forth contest. The Highlanders battled point-for-point with the Gaels, showing promising development on both sides of the ball as the young season continues to develop.

Senior Doga Emil, in set number one of the match, recorded her 1,000th career dig making her the 6th Highlander to achieve this milestone.

In match two of the day, that same fight the Highlanders displayed against Iona was present against Central Connecticut State. After a tight first set, the Highlanders responded with strong performances in sets two and three using multiple rallies to extend their lead. In a tightly contested match, NJIT's ability to adjust and adapt was evident in their improved attack percentage from .182 in the first set to .222 overall, while they held Central Connecticut to a .182 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Ema Torres was a standout player for the Highlanders in match two leading the team with 15.5 points. Torres finished the match with eight kills and 11 digs.

NJIT heads back to South Orange, NJ on Saturday for a match up against the Seton Hall Pirates at 3:00 p.m. where the Highlanders look to continue their winning ways.
