ITHACA, NY–Senior goalkeeper Devin Armstrong set a personal-best 12 saves but the Highlanders dropped a 3-0 decision at No. 24 Cornell in men's soccer non-conference action Saturday evening at Berman Field.
The Big Red won its second straight of the season, moving to 4-1 on the year while the Highlanders moved to 2-4-2 on the year.
How It Happened
–A free kick by Diogo Rebelo in the 16th minute towards the near post goes just wide.
–Devin Armstrong kept Cornell off the board with a diving save off a shot by Westin Carnevale from the top of the box in the 32nd minute.
–Armstrong came up with a big save in the 41st minute as the ball was sent forward and cut back to Liam May in the middle of the box but his shot went high.
–On a Cornell throw-in with eight seconds remaining in the first half, the Big Red had an opportunity to score but the shot inside the box was blocked by the Highlander defense as time expired.
–The Big Red held a 12-to-3 overall shots advantage (5-to-0 on shots on goal).
–Rebelo paced the Highlanders with two shots in the first half.
–Armstrong had a strong performance in the first half, stopping five Big Red shots.–Four minutes into the second half, Cornell broke the ice on a pass from the left side of the field through the Highlander defense to Connor Miller for the first tally of the match.
–Armstrong made a one-handed save in the 61st minute on a shot by Cornell from about 12 yards out.
–Cornell doubled the score in the 82nd minute and went ahead 3-0 with a goal in the 89th minute.
–The overall shots were in favor of the home team 32-to-7 (15-to-1 SOG).
–Rebelo paced NJIT with four overall shots.
Noteworthy
–Armstrong set a new personal-best in saves (12). He surpassed his nine saves from a season ago at Vermont (Oct. 13).
–His 12 saves in a single-game ranks tied for second in the NCAA (as of 9/18/25).
–The 12 saves are the most by a Highlander goalkeeper since Collin Cunning combined for 13 saves at Maryland on October 26, 2005.
