NJIT, Saint Peter’s Battle to Scoreless Draw in Newark

NEWARK, NJ–A tightly contested match between NJIT and Saint Peter's ended in a 0-0 scoreless draw Saturday evening in men's soccer non-conference action inside Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

NJIT moves to 1-3-2 overall while Saint Peter's now stands at 2-3-1 on the season.

The Highlanders out-shot the visiting Peacocks 21-to-19 and shots on goal 9-to-5 led by a match-high eight shots (three on goal) from Diogo RebeloJunee Lee registered four overall shots (three on goal) while three different Highlanders – Cristian LoGrasso, Minki Jeong and Khaled Daoud each combined for two shots each.

Senior goalkeeper Devin Armstrong played the full 90 minutes, making four saves.

How It Happened
The Highlander defense made two big saves in the 33rd minute on a team save with a clear off on the backline by Eric Sadlocha while the second shot was punched out by Highlander keeper Armstrong to keep Saint Peter's off the board.

Rebelo with a pair of chances in the 34th minute on a ball over the top of the Peacock defense, settled down and fired a shot off the woodwork and his second shot off a cross by Daoud to the weak side sailed high.

After the first 45 minutes, Saint Peter's held a slight edge in overall shots (9-to-8) as the Highlanders out-shot the Peacocks 4-to-3 on shots on goal led by five total shots from Rebelo.

The Highlanders had two early opportunities to find the back of the net to open the second half on a split into the box by Daoud but his shot went off the back left post in the 50th minute and two minutes later a header by Lee inside the box was denied off a left-footed cross by Jack Krongold.

With 10 minutes left in the match, Daoud created space down the left side, finding Diogo Rebelo inside the box but his back heel shot was saved.

In the final minute, Saint Peter's best chance of the night was on a strike by Davis Barnes which went wide right.
