ITA Official Release
NEWARK, NJ–Nine members of the NJIT women's tennis team were named to the 2024-25 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Scholar-Athlete Team, the association announced this week.
In addition to the eight individuals receiving the honor, the team was also recognized as a Division I All-Academic team.
Representing NJIT on the Scholar-Athlete team are: Lusia Hepcal Barcan, Riya Mathur, Arina Babkova, Paula Menendez Alvarez, Shalom Salvi, Irene Cocero, Petra Koszo, Laura Wipfli and Feyza Aydin.
In order to earn the individual award, student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the academic year. The team honor goes to squads with a combined 3.2 GPA, which the Highlanders surpassed with an impressive 3.694 mark.
Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2025, 1,462 Division I women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 222 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
