Little Falls, N.J. – MT Morrissey had a dazzling performance on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits over 7.2 innings as NJIT claimed a 7-1 victory over UAlbany on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Morrissey struck out seven and threw 102 pitches in his outing. The right-hander's outing included a stretch in which he retired 17 consecutive batters from the second until the eighth inning.
How it Happened
Despite his great outing, UAlbany was able to get to Morrissey in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. That was quickly answered by the Highlanders the following inning, as two singles and a walk loaded the bases for
Michael Doyle with two outs. Doyle crushed the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a grand slam, his first round-tripper of the season.
NJIT added insurance tallies in both the third and fourth innings.
Cole Campbell ripped a two-out RBI double which gave the Highlanders a 5-1 lead in the third. Next inning,
Jack Stead ripped a line shot to left field that got past the diving left fielder and all the way to the wall for an RBI triple.
Morrissey continued to cruise through the middle innings, setting down the side in order in five straight innings during his streak of 17 straight hitters retired. Campbell would add some extra run support for Morrissey in the seventh, collecting his second RBI of the day with an RBI single to right.
