Box Score Thibodaux, La. – The NJIT men's tennis team's season came to an end on Saturday afternoon in the Southland Conference Tournament Championship Match, falling to No. 5 seed New Orleans, 4-1.
NJIT got off on the right foot in the match, clinching the doubles point to grab the early advantage. On Court No. 1,
Pablo Perez Ramos and
Nejc Skorjanc continued their winning ways with a victory, 6-2, after the Privateers nabbed a win in No. 2 doubles. The point came down to the No. 3 flight, where
Soma Fukuhara and
German Lopez Andujar were able to snatch a 6-3 victory to give the Highlanders the lead in the match.
New Orleans was able to overcome some early deficits in singles action to take home the title. Straight set victories in No. 5 and No. 2 singles gave the Privateers the lead, followed by a New Orleans win on Court No. 1.
Oscar Callo von Platen won the first set in No. 3 singles, but his opponent Julian Franzmann was able to force a decisive third set. Callo von Platen did well with his back against the wall to fight off multiple match points, but Franzmann was eventually able to clinch the victory for New Orleans.
