FAIRFIELD, CT–The NJIT men's volleyball team swept Sacred Heart, 3-0, Saturday in the regular season road finale for the Highlanders inside the William H. Pitt Center.
NJIT, winners of five in a row, moved to 12-12 on the season and 6-4 in the EIVA. The Highlanders sit in third in the EIVA standings with Princeton at the top (9-1) and Penn State (6-3) in second. NJIT and Penn State split the regular season series and NJIT holds the head-to-head sets over the Nittany Lions, 4-3.
The Highlanders have reached 12 or more wins in the last four out of five seasons under head coach Danny Goncalves who is in his 11th season at the helm of the Highlanders. The 12 wins are the most wins since the 2022 season when the Highlanders finished 17-11 and advanced to the EIVA Finals.
NJIT took the regular season series sweep from Sacred Heart, earning a 3-1 victory over the Pioneers on April 11 and the 3-0 sweep on Saturday, defeating the home team 25-21, 25-19 and 25-18.
Leading the Highlanders to victory on Saturday was senior Josh Gregg who has stepped up big for the Highlanders, notching 14 kills on a .429 hitting percentage followed by Alessandro Negri with 11 kills on a .320 hitting percentage. Freshman Harrison Girard registered a .500 hitting percentage in two sets with six kills on 10 swings with just one error.
Freshman setter Bruno Figueiredo shared match-high honors with 31 assists and paced the Highlanders with eight digs.
For the second straight night, NJIT dominated the team blocking category (12-to-3) led by Gregg with seven total digs (one solo, six assists) while Goebbert and Andrew Fedmasu posted four total blocks.
Negri added six digs and Goebbert recorded three service aces in the win.
NJIT will conclude the regular season at home next weekend, hosting Harvard on April 18 (6pm) and April 19 (7pm). Saturday will mark Senior Night for six graduating seniors – Alessandro Negri, Antonio Feliciano, Braeden Goebbert, Christian Trevino, Josh Gregg and Gil Zyndorf.
The 2025 EIVA Conference Tournament will take place on April 23-26 and hosted by the regular season champion.
