Box Score Wilmington, N.C. - The NJIT men's tennis team picked up its second win of its spring break trip with a 4-1 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon. Nejc Skorjanc earned the clinching point in No. 2 singles to add to his win in the top doubles flight.
"What a great win for our guys today," said Head Coach Marco Matteucci. Kennesaw State is a tough team that pushed us to the limit. We had some early match points but Kennesaw pushed us to a third set on the No. 2 court, but I am so proud of the guys to have played so disciplined outdoors this early in the season.
Skorjanc paired with Pablo Perez Ramos at their usual No. 1 position in doubles action, winning their match, 6-4. That victory was paired with Oscar Callo von Platen and Soma Fukuhara earning the win on the No. 2 court, 6-3.
In singles, Perez Ramos cruised to a victory in the top slot in the lineup, 6-1, 6-2. Fukuhara was also able to pick up a straight sets victory, coasting to a 6-2, 6-3 win on the No. 4 court. Skorjanc was then able to clinch the match for NJIT in No. 2 singles, continuing his strong season with a three-set triumph, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.
"This is the first time we come away with a winning record during spring break going outdoors after spending months inside," Matteucci said. We had solid doubles, Pablo starting it to give us the edge and Soma to round it up. Nejc clinched it for us again while both German [Lopez Andujar] and Tom [Sorin] where leading in their third sets. Great win for the Highlanders!!!
