Box Score Williamsburg, Va. - The No. 74 ranked NJIT men's tennis team kicked off its spring break trip on a high note, earning a 4-1 road victory at William & Mary on Monday afternoon.
"Really good win today for the guys," said Head Coach Marco Matteucci. Doubles played a big role in the win. At the end there were in so many tight matches and I was very happy that Nejc finished his match off to clinch for us."
The Highlanders picked up victories out of the No. 1 and No. 3 slots to earn the doubles point to open the match. Pablo Perez Ramos and Nejc Skorjanc would lead things off with a 6-2 win in the top flight, while Severin Risan and German Lopez Andujar earned a 6-3 victory to get NJIT off on the right foot.
Lopez Andujar would add a singles victory too for NJIT, earning a win out of the No. 6 slot in convincing fashion over Raz Katz, 6-1, 6-0. Oscar Callo von Platen would also post a strong singles performance, taking home a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 slot. Skorjanc would battle to the bitter end in a gritty win on the No. 2 court to clinch the match. After falling in the first set, Skorjanc rebounded to take the final two sets and the match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
"Really good fight from everyone today but there is still a lot of work to be done," Matteucci said.
