Highlanders Drop Series Finale at High Point

High Point, N.C. - Ray Ortiz clubbed a home run and Ty Sallie went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, but the Highlanders were unable to salvage the final game of their four-game series at High Point in a 20-8 loss on Sunday afternoon.

Things started off strong for NJIT, putting a four spot on the board in the top of the first. Austin Francis started the rally with a double, coming home on Ortiz's two-run shot to center field. Mason Wolf would follow up with a single and score all the way from first on an RBI double to left center from Hayden Mileski to make it 3-0. Mileski would come across to score on the next pitch, as Sallie poked a ball up the middle for an RBI single.

High Point's offense was strong, responding quickly with five runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. NJIT tried to chip away in the middle innings, as Sallie drove in his second run of the game on a single down the third base line to make it a 7-5 game in the third. Francis would knock in a pair on the afternoon as well, lacing an RBI double in the fourth and bringhing home a run on an RBI groundout in the sixth. Prior to that RBI groundout, Cole Campbell knocked home his second run of the season with an RBI double. Despite the run production for the Highlanders, the High Point offense proved to be too much as it kept stretching the lead en route to victory.
