MT Morrissey Signs Professional Contract with Philadelphia Phillies Organization

NEWARK, NJ -- NJIT right-handed pitcher MT Morrissey signs a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies Organization on December 2nd, 2025. 

Morrissey, who hails from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, spent is fifth year of college baseball as Highlander after transferring from Bryant University. The right-hander was named All-America East Second Team and made 15 appearances and 14 starts on the mound for the Highlanders. Morrissey led the team and finished second in America East with 77 strikeouts and his three complete games ranked him third in the NCAA.

Throughout the season Morrissey was named America East Pitcher of the Week twice and earned his first win by tossing seven innings and allowing just one run while striking out seven against Iona on March 1st, 2025.

Fellow teammate Holden deJong​ was drafted by the Orioles in the 11th round, 334th overall​, earlier in the year in the 2025 MLB Draft. Other Highlanders who played professionally include Mark Leiter, Jr., currently a right-handed relief pitcher for the New York Yankees drafted in 2013 by the Philadelphia Phillies; James Schak, picked in 1973 by the San Francisco Giants; Tripp Davis, who signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2013; and Ed Charlton, drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2015.
