NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's soccer team battled with No. 4 Vermont, dropping a 2-1 loss on Saturday evening in America East Conference men's soccer action inside Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
Vermont, the defending National Champions, remain perfect on the season, improving to 8-0-3, 2-0 in the America East while the Highlanders move to 2-5-3, 0-1-1 in the league.

Junior Jake Rubis scored in the 89th minute to put the Highlanders on the board.

The goal for Rubis was his first of the season and second of his career.

Sergio Martinez Cubel was credited with an assist on Rubis' goal and currently leads the Highlanders with two assists and four points.

Goalkeeper Devin Armstrong was credited with his first collegiate assist on the Rubis goal.

Armstrong played the full 90 minutes, stopping four Catamount shots.

How It Happened

Vermont scored the first goal of the match in the 18th minute off a set piece, which started with a corner kick served into the box on the near post. The Catamounts Ludvig af Ugglas carried the ball to the goal line , finding David Ismail in the center who tucked away his fourth goal of the season with a right footed blast to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The Catamounts doubled its score in the 76th minute on a through ball to Andrew Miller giving Vermont a 2-0 lead off the right-footed shot by Miller past the Highlander keeper. Philipp Kuehn was credited with the assist.

Rubis scored a late goal for the Highlanders in the final minute of the match. Armstrong served the ball to the top of the box and Martinez Cubel flicked the ball with the back of his head to Rubis who was able to beat the Vermont goalkeeper with a shot to the bottom left from the top of the six.
