PHILADELPHIA, PA–Sophomore transfer Junee Lee headed home his first goal of the season in the Highlanders 1-1 draw at Drexel Tuesday evening at Vidas Field in the final non-conference match of the season.
NJIT moves to 3-6-4 overall while Drexel stands at 4-3-5 on the season.
How It Happened
- NJIT got on the board first in the 17th minute on a left-footed cross by Patrick Kierzkowski to Junee Lee header into the left corner of the goal to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.
- Drexel scored the equalizer in the 28th minute on a loose ball in front of the net past a diving Highlander goalkeeper for a 1-1 score.
- The Dragons held a slight edge in overall shots through the first 45 minutes (5-4, 3-1 SOG) and Drexel dominated a 5-1 advantage in cornerkicks.
- In the 50th minute on a free kick for the Highlanders, Kierzkowski left-footed blast nearly gave NJIT the lead on a diving save by Drexel's goalkeeper.
- NJIT continued to apply the pressure late in the match with a shot coming in the 70th minute by Alvaro Heredia and in the 76th minute by Rodrigo Grenha.
- Lee got off a shot in the 83rd minute which sailed out to the top left and again in the final minute on a shot on goal that was saved by the Dragons goalkeeper.
- Leading the Highlanders offense was Lee with three overall shots (two on goal) followed by Khaled Daoud combined for two shots.
- Devin Armstrong played the full 90 minutes in goal, registering five saves.
- The overall shots were 11-9 in favor of the home team (6-4 SOG).
Noteworthy
- The goal for Lee, a transfer from Mount Saint Mary's, was his first of the season in a Highlander uniform in just his second start of the season.
- Kierzkowski, a transfer from Saint Francis U, tallied his first assist as a Highlander.
