NEWARK, NJ–Freshman
Henrique Sardinha tallied the lone goal of the match in the final minute of the first half to lift visiting NJIT to a 1-0 road victory over Binghamton in America East Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon inside the Bearcats Sports Complex.
NJIT picks up its first win in America East action, moving to .500 (1-1-1) in the league and 3-6-3 overall. Binghamton drops its fifth straight match of the season, falling to 4-9 overall, 0-3-0 in the America East.
How It Happened

In the first 45 minutes, NJIT's Eric Sadlocha, Caio Carrara and Jack Krongold each recorded one shot.

Sadlocha's shot in the 15th minute missed high and Carrara and Krongold's shot were both blocked by a Bearcat defender.

Highlander goalkeeper Devin Armstrong denied Binghamton from striking first with a save in the 33rd minute.

A minute later, Jack Krongold served the ball towards the back of the box, finding Diogo Rebleo whose shot went wide.

In the final minute of the first half, NJIT freshman Henrique Sardinha put the Highlanders ahead with a goal in the 45th minute assisted by Sergio Martinez Cubel. The play began with a through ball from senior Alvaro Heredia to a running Sergio Martinez Cubel. Martinez Cubel slipped the ball in-between the Bearcat defense to Sardinha who tucked away a left-footed shot past a sliding Bearcat goalkeeper to put NJIT on the board 1-0.

Patrick Kierzkowski header in the 68th minute nearly doubled the Highlander on a corner kick by Giovanni Massacesi but the shot stayed wide.

The Bearcats had an opportunity in the 70th minute but the header sailed high.

Sardinha paced the Highlanders with two shots in the win.

Devin Armstrong played the full 90 minutes in goal, making two saves and recording the shutout.

Binghamton held a slight edge in overall shots (11-8); both teams two shots on goal.
