Box Score NEWARK, N.J. – The NJIT men's tennis team opened the 2025 spring season in dominant fashion, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday morning inside the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreation Center.
The day began with the Highlanders capturing the doubles point, with the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles pairings securing it for the home side.
Pablo Perez Ramos and Njec Skorjanc earned a 6-0 win on the No. 1 court, with
Wil Jenkins and
Soma Fukuhara earning the win in the No. 2 slot, 6-2.
NJIT dominated in singles, with five of the six players winning in straight sets. Perez Ramos and Skorjanc each won 6-3, 6-4 scores in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Fukuhara played in the No. 3 position, battling to a win in three sets, 6-2, 6-7, 10-3.
Other Highlander wins on the day came via
Oscar Callo von Platen, who picked up a 6-1, 6-4 triumph in the No. 4 position.
Maxime Hankins made his NJIT debut in No. 5 singles, winning his match 6-4, 6-3.
Tom Sorin rounded out the Highlanders' lineup with a win in the No. 6 slot, 6-1, 6-4.
"We had a good day today against a solid team that made us work for points, especially in singles," head coach
Marco Matteucci said. "I am happy that we have a very deep team this year, and we're looking forward to another match tomorrow at home."
That match will get underway at 2 p.m. on Sunday when NJIT welcomes in LIU.
