Dover, Del. – The NJIT women's volleyball team kicked off its final non-conference tournament of the season on Friday at the Delaware State Tournament, falling in three sets to George Washington, 26-24, 25-12, 25-19.
The Highlanders opened the match well, holding a five point lead early in the first set. The Revolutionaries fought back to level the set midway through, followed by the teams trading points down the stretch in set one. After a service ace from
Mariana Cova tied the set back up, 23-23, George Washington collected three of the next four points to take the set one win. The Revolutionaries would control the next two sets as well to take the match in straight sets.
Ines Varela had an efficient match for NJIT with six kills, a .385 attack percentage and four digs.
Rowan Schreiber collected five kills and a pair of block assists.
Patricia Rakova got her first action of the season, finishing with three kills on six attack attempts.
