QUEENS, NY – The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped its road contest on Tuesday night to St. John's in three sets. The Red Storm claimed the match on their home court, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22.
The Highlanders opened the match strong, taking a 15-10 advantage after a kill from
Ilayda Dincer. St. John's called a timeout and was able to flip the script, surging back to take the opening set victory. After commanding set two, the Red Storm were tested by NJIT throughout much of set three. Neither side were able to mount a scoring run until St. John's pieced together momentum to take the straight sets win.
Ema Torres led NJIT with eight kills and a .278 hitting percentage, while Dincer and
Aries Fontaine each collected seven kills apiece.
Doga Emil once again paced the Highlanders defensively with a team-best 18 digs.
NJIT returns to the court on Friday at the Siena invitational where they will face off against Syracuse for the second time this season. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m.
