NJIT Highlights at La Salle
PHILADELPHIA–Three different players scored their first goals in an NJIT men's soccer uniform Monday evening as the Highlanders registered a 3-0 shutout victory on the road at La Salle inside McCarthy Stadium.
A pair of transfers – Raz Amir and Sokol Ymeraj scored the first two goals, while freshman Andrew Araya scored his first collegiate goal in the second half.
Araya and Giovanni Massacesi tallied their first collegiate assist while freshman goalkeeper Evan Chomow made his college debut, recording the shutout and stopping six saves in 72 minutes of action.
NJIT improved to 1-0-1 on the young season while La Salle moved to 0-1-1.
How It Happened

An early goal in the seventh minute by Raz Amir gave the visiting Highlanders an 1-0 lead. Massacesi settled the ball at the top of the box and found Araya coming down the left side. Araya fired a left-footed strike which was saved by the La Salle keeper and Amir collected the rebound, tucking away his first collegiate goal in a Highlander uniform.

A foul right outside the box in the 41st minute, set the Highlanders up for a free kick. Sokol scored on a quick right-footed shot into the upper left corner to give the visiting Highlanders a 2-0 advantage.

NJIT scored the third goal of the match in the 79th minute on a long pass from Sergio Martinez Cubel to Araya, who netted his first collegiate goal firing the ball past the La Salle keeper into the low left corner for a 3-0 lead.

Keeper Chomow replaced an injured starting goalkeeper Devin Armstrong who played 18 minutes.

Next Match
NJIT will have a quick turnaround and make its second consecutive trip up north and visit UConn on Thursday, August 29. Kickoff is slated for 7pm on the UConn+ Network.
