VESTAL, NY - The NJIT baseball team fell to host Binghamton in an extra inning affair as the Bearcats won 7-5 in 10 innings in America East Conference action on Saturday at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
Saturday's win clinched the series for Binghamton, who also defeated the Highlander 8-1 on Friday.Â
It didn't take long for NJIT to get out in front in Saturday's game as
Albert Choi hit a lead off home run to put the Highlanders ahead 1-0 in the first inning.
Cole Campbell's first-career home run, a two-run shot, made it 3-0 an inning later and the Highlanders' starting pitcher
Brandon Peterson took over from there.
Peterson allowed just two runs in six innings as the Highlanders led 3-2 heading into the seventh.Â
Binghamton was able to get a run across off of NJIT reliever
Joe Georgini in the eighth to tie the game and after a scoreless ninth the game was headed for extra innings.Â
With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the 10th, NJIT freshman
Cade Ladehoff scored a pair with his third hit of the game.Â
The lead was short-lived, however, as Binghamton hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th to earn the 7-5 walk off win.Â
NJIT will look to salvage the series on Sunday when the teams conclude the series at 1pm.
