BEAUMONT, Texas — The NJIT women's tennis team got back to its winning ways with a closely contested 4-3 victory over the Lamar University Cardinals Thursday evening at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
NJIT (12-2) went ahead 2-0 to start the match after sweeping doubles and claiming the first singles flight (No. 4) in straight sets.
Lamar would answer with three straight wins of their own, securing flight Nos. 5, 6 and 3 to take a 3-2 advantage.
The Cardinals had two chances to clinch the match against the Highlanders with the top two flights still in play, but NJIT would take them both, and with them, the match. In both matchups, the Highlanders would win the first set, drop the second, and close things out in the third.
