ALBANY - The NJIT men's basketball team was defeated 83-58 by host UAlbany in America East Conference action on Thursday evening at the Broadview Center.
The Great Danes scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back as they led wire-to-wire behind a 20-point effort from Tyler Bertram.
NJIT was able to get within four twice in the first half, but never any closer as UAlbany extended its lead to 14, 39-25, at halftime.Â
Elijah Buchanan opened the second half with an old-fashioned three-point play and hit a three-pointer minutes later to cut the margin to eight. NJIT was unable to get any closer, however, as the Great Danes extended their lead to double digits by the 16-minute mark.
UAlbany continued to add to its lead throughout the half until ultimately winning by the 25-point margin.
Buchnan was NJIT's top scorer, finishing with 19 points on the night. Fellow Manhattan transfer
Daniel Schreier put together one of his best games of the season, finishing with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Bertram made his first four three-pointers en route to a 6-for-10 effort from long range. Sebastian Thomas also filled the box score for UAlbany, scoring 16 points, dishing out nine assists, and grabbing eight rebounds.Â
NJIT will look to bounce back on Saturday when it hosts Binghamton at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center. Tip-off is slated for 3:30pm.
