Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Moore Posts Season-High in Loss at Delaware State

Dover, Del. – Tim Moore Jr. notched a season-high 20 points to go along with seven points, but the NJIT men's basketball team fell on the road at Delaware State on Wednesday night, 71-59.

Moore's game was his most efficient as a Highlander, as he connected on six of his 12 shots from the floor. The graduate student also added two blocks and two steals while shooting 8-for-9 at the free throw line.

How it Happened
Both offenses took a bit to settle into the game, but a Tariq Francis three-pointer helped NJIT gain the lead, 10-8, just under seven minutes into the contest. After the under-12 media timeout, Ari Fulton connected on one of his two 3-pointers of the night to push the lead up to five. Delaware State countered with a 12-0 run to take the lead, but the Highlanders would claw their way back late in the half. Sebastian Robinson scored on back-to-back possessions, and a free throw from Moore out of a timeout gave NJIT the lead back, 28-27. Delaware State would close the half strong however and take a six-point edge into the locker room.

In the second half, NJIT found itself in an uphill battle. The Hornets extended their lead to 10, 43-33, just two minutes into the second half. The Highlanders cut it back down to six with buckets from Francis and Levi Lawal, but Delaware State was able to keep NJIT from piecing any run together. Later in the half, Francis would connect on a three to once again trim the deficit back to within single digits, but the Hornets answered with a bucket of their own to push it back to a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

News & Notes
  • Moore's points, minutes played, field goals made and free throws made are all new season-highs.
  • Francis failed to score 20 points for just the second time in his last seven games. It also snapped a five-game stretch in which he had scored at least 23 points.
  • The Highlanders committed a season-low nine turnovers.
