Albany, N.Y. – The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped its contest on the road at UAlbany on Friday night in three sets, 25-19, 26-24, 25-20.
After falling in set one, the Highlanders got out to a 10-6 lead in the second frame after a kill from
Ines Varela. Kills from
Cece Marino and
Mariana Cova helped keep the NJIT lead at four after a couple points for the Great Danes tried to chip into the lead. The Highlanders continued to spread the wealth late in the set, as successive kills from
Taylor West,
Ema Torres and
Ilayda Dincer put NJIT within two points of evening the match, 23-21. However, UAlbany bounced back with five of the next six points to take the set, and would close out the match with a strong third stanza.
Dincer and Torres each led the attack for the Highlanders with nine kills apiece. Marino notched her sixth double-double of her strong freshman season, completing the night with 26 assists and 12 digs. Varela put in a great effort at the net defensively with eight total blocks.
