BALTIMORE, MD–UMBC scored two late goals to secure a 2-0 win over visiting NJIT in the final regular season match at UMBC Retriever Soccer Complex Tuesday evening.

How It Happened

The score was knotted at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes with the Retrievers holding an 8-to-1 overall shots advantage. Highlander keeper Devin Armstrong grabbed three saves in net.

To start the second half, Alvaro Heredia put a shot on goal in the 53rd minute with a right-footed strike from the top of the box, which was saved by UMBC's goalkeeper Emigdio Lopez.

Three minutes later, Devin Armstrong made a diving save to his right on a long strike by UMBC's Tyquan Stroud.

UMBC tallied the first goal of the match in the 83rd minute on a left-footed cross into the middle of the field to Joseph Picotto who headed home the Retriever goal to give UMBC a 1-0 lead.

The Retrievers doubled its lead in the 88th minute on a goal by Ryan Calheira after getting behind the NJIT defense for a 2-0 lead.

UMBC out-shot NJIT, 15-8 in overall shots (8-1) shots on goal.
