Washington, D.C. – The NJIT men's basketball suffered a defeat on the road on Monday night at George Washington, 84-64.
Tariq Francis led the Highlanders offensively, finishing just shy of a double-double with 20 points and nine assists.
Jake Goldberg chipped in with a career-high 14 points and four made three-pointers.
How it Happened
After the Revolutionaries got off to a hot start with the game's first seven points, NJIT fought back and eventually took its first lead, 14-13, after a tip-in from
Levi Lawal. That bucket would spark a 7-1 run for the Highlanders, as a Goldberg three followed by a steal and score from
Triston Wennersten pushed the lead to five. Later in the half, Francis would pour in five straight points for the Highlanders, evening up the score at 24-24 with just over six minutes left before halftime. The Revolutionaries would use an 11-3 run to boost their lead to eight, and would eventually grow the advantage to 10 heading into the locker room.
The Highlanders hung tough in the second half, with Goldberg coming out of the gates hitting back-to-back threes. George Washington would respond with a couple buckets on the other end to maintain a healthy lead, but layups from Francis at the 16:45 mark and a three-pointer with at 15:24 made it a six-point game.
George Washington would push its lead to double digits at the 14:22 mark, but NJIT would stay in the fight. A
Malachi Arrington layup cut the deficit back down into single digits, 63-55, with just over 11 minutes remaining. However, the Revolutionaries would go on a run afterwards, holding NJIT scoreless for seven minutes to pull away with the victory.
