Men’s Soccer Draws with New Hampshire on Senior Night in Home Finale

NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with visiting New Hampshire in the home finale on Senior Night for the Highlanders Friday evening in America East Conference men's soccer action inside Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

NJIT moves to 6-6-3 overall, 2-2-1 in the America East and have one remaining regular season match left on the schedule.  The Highlanders regular season finale will be on Tuesday, November 5 at 7pm.

New Hampshire moves to 6-3-5 overall, 3-1-1 in the America East and clinches a spot in the America East Conference Tournament.

How It Happened

  • After the first 45 minutes, NJIT and New Hampshire were knotted at 0-0.

  • NJIT held a slight edge in overall shots (5-to-3) with five different Highlanders being credited with one shot.

  • NJIT's Sokol Ymeraj penalty kick in the 53rd minute was stopped by Wildcat goalkeeper Erik Lauta after stretching out for the save. 

  • The home team had two opportunities to begin the second half over a span of four minutes on a shot by Sergio Martinez Cubel (59th) which was saved by the Wildcat keeper and senior Asembo Augo on a right footed strike inside the box, sailing just wide in the (62nd) minute.

  • New Hampshire Matthew Goncalves' blast in the 59th minute hit the post.

  • A dangerous shot by UNH's Goncalves was stopped on a one-footed save by Devin Armstrong to keep the Wildcats off the board in the 77th minute.

  • The overall shots were in favor of the home team, 22-to-5 (17 shots coming in the second half).

  • Martinez Cubel led all players with five shots (two on goal).

  • Armstrong finished with one save while counterpart Lauta stopped six NJIT shots.

Next Up
NJIT will conclude its regular season on the road on November 5 at UMBC.  Kickoff is slated for 7pm on ESPN+.
