NEWARK, N.J. - Senior
Daniella Vito scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute, leading the NJIT women's soccer team (4-10-3, 1-5-2 AE) to a 2-1 victory over UMBC (5-12-1, 1-6-1 AE) on Thursday night at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
Vito netted her first goal of the season, closing out her collegiate career with two goals.
In the 30th minute,
Briana Andreoli had a scoring opportunity in the box, but a diving save by UMBC goalkeeper Abbey Cowles kept the game scoreless.
Caroline Caputo scored her third goal of the season in the 34th minute, assisted by
Ciara Adams. Adams finished the season with a team-high ten points, while Caputo ranked third on the team with eight points. The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead at halftime for the second straight game.
UMBC's Meghan McKye tied the game off a corner kick in the 64th minute, assisted by Izzy Binko. McKye scored her third career goal against NJIT.
Samantha Constantine recorded four saves, including three in the first half.
Kennedy Westbrook and
Sofia Mignon played the full 90 minutes. Andreoli led the team in shots (3) and shots on goal (2).
NJIT led in shots on goal (7-5), but UMBC led in shots (18-13), corner kicks (5-2), and possession (58%-42%).
