LOWELL, MA–The NJIT men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on the road at UMass Lowell Saturday evening in men's soccer America East Conference action at Cushion Field.
NJIT is undefeated in the last five-out-of-six matches. With the draw tonight, NJIT moves to 6-6-3 overall, 2-2-1 in the America East.
NJIT picked up back-to-back home victories over UAlbany (W, 2-1) and Drexel (W, 2-1).
The Highlanders started off the stretch with a tie against Delaware to open the month of October, registered a home win over Binghamton, 2-1, then dropped a 2-0 decision at Vermont after the match was held scoreless for 75 minutes.

UMass Lowell netted the first goal of the match in the 39th minute of the match on a penalty kick by Yanis Lakhlifi to give the River Hawks a 1-0 lead.

The River Hawks held a 1-0 lead at the half but the Highlanders knotted the match at 1-1 in the 60th minute on a successful penalty kick by graduate student Sokol Ymeraj.

NJIT led the overall shots category (9-to-7) paced by Alvaro Heredia with three shots followed by captain Goncalo Franco with two.

Goalkeeper Devin Armstrong picked up a pair of saves in 90 minutes.

The goal for the Highlanders in the 60th minute was the sixth successful penalty kick this season.

Ymeraj now shares the team lead with Sergio Martinez Cubel with four goals. For the season, Ymeraj has scored three successful penalty kicks.
Next Up
NJIT will wrap up the home portion of its schedule on Friday, November 1 at 7pm, hosting New Hampshire. In pregame ceremonies, NJIT will honor its graduating seniors – Amit Magoz, Asembo Augo, Goncalo Franco, Justin Aguirre-Rosas, Matt Moran, Raz Amir and Sokol Ymeraj. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
