EASTON, PA - The NJIT women's volleyball team saw its three-match win streak snapped on Wednesday evening as host Lafayette defeated the Highlanders in straight sets at the Kirby Sports Center.
NJIT's record now stands at an even 5-5 on the season, while the Leopards are also .500 at 4-4.
The Highlanders jumped in front early and led for much of the first set, but the Leopards battled back and scored the final three points of the frame to win 28-26 and go ahead 1-0.
In the second set, NJIT once again raced out to an early lead, this time 6-2, but the hosts quickly went on a run of their own and tied the set 9-9. From there, Lafayette went on a 7-2 run to take a five-point lead and never looked back en route to a 25-19 second set victory.
The Highlanders led 15-11 in the third set, but the Leopards once again came from behind and took the lead with four-straight points after NJIT led 19-18. Lafayette wo the set 25-21, clinching the match on a kill from Emma Patmon.
Patmon finished with 14 kills to lead all players, while 
Adriana Goetz-Morales paced NJIT with nine kills. Lafayette hit .310 for the match and held the Highlanders to a .157 hitting percentage.
Doga Emil led NJIT with 14 digs, while 
Maddie Dennis (17 assists) and 
Juliana Impaglia (15 assists) split the setting duties. 
The Highlanders will look to put together a new winning streak on Friday when they travel to Delaware State for a 7pm match. Earlier this season, DSU defeated NJIT in straight sets, edging the Highlanders 25-23 in all three sets.
