SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by host Seton Hall on the first day of the Seton Hall Classic at Walsh Gymnasium on Thursday.
The Pirates took the first set in decisive fashion, winning 25-15, before narrowly holding on to win the second set 30-28 and the third 25-22 to clinch the match.
Elley Torres was NJIT's top offensive performer, finishing with nine kill, while
Sara Siefert chipped in with five. Siefert also had three aces in the three-set match.
Siefert's freshman classmate,
Rowan Schreiber, had a standout match at the net, blocking eight shots, including a pair of solo blocks. Torres also contributed to the blocking game with four of her own as the Highlanders out-blocked SHU 10-8.
Juliana Impaglia finished with a double-double as the graduate student dished out 10 assists to go along with a team-high 10 digs.
The Highlanders wrap up play at the event with two more matches on Friday. NJIT will take on George Mason at 11am followed by a 2pm match against Saint Peter's.
