NJIT Splits Two Matches on Friday

Highlanders Sweep Saint Peter's For Third Win of the Season

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball picked up its third win of the 2023 season on Friday as it split a pair of matches at The Seton Hall Classic, first falling in four sets to George Mason, before bouncing back with a sweep of Saint Peter's.

The Highlanders are now 3-4 on the season.

In the first match of the day, George Mason opened things up with a 25-16 first set win and then made it 2-0 by taking the second set 25-20. The Highlanders didn't go down easy, however, as they won the third frame 25-23 and led for most of the fourth set, before ultimately dropping the set 25-19 to give George Mason the win. 

Freshman Sara Siefert led the Highlanders with 10 kills in the match, while Mariana Cova and Adriana Goetz-Morales each chipped in with seven. 

Juliana Impaglia led the team with 24 assists, while Doga Emil finished with a team-high 21 digs. 

NJIT set the tone early against Saint Peter's with a 25-14 first set win. The Highlanders then took the second set 25-19 and clinched the victory with a 25-20 win in the third set.

Goetz-Morales led a balanced offensive attack for the Highlanders, finishing with nine kills. Cova and Taylor West each had eight, while Rowan Schreiber was efficent with four kills in just five attacks for a .800 hitting percentage. 

Impaglia once again led the setting efforts for NJIT, finishing with 18 as Emil's 16 digs were a match-high.

NJIT will look to get back to .500 on Tuesday when it travels to FDU for a 7pm match.
