LOWELL, MA - The NJIT baseball team suffered a 5-1 setback to host UMass Lowell in America East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.
The Riverhawks broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to go ahead 3-0;
UML added to its lead with a pair of runs in the seventh to go ahead 5-0.
NJIT got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning when
Kevin Putsky singled home
Michael Doyle.
The Riverhawks were able to keep the Highlanders off the scoreboard from there to preserve the win and clinch the three-game series victory.
Aidan Kidd started on the mound for NJIT and struck out eight in five innings of work. The junior has now struck out 84 batters this season.Â
Doyle and
Andrew Elcock paced the Highlanders offense with two hits each.
Luke Longo was hit by a pitch in the third inning to increase his reached base streak to 28 games.Â
NJIT and UML will conclude the three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm back at LeLacheur Park.
