UNION, NJ - The NJIT baseball team was defeated 6-0 by visiting Maine on Sunday afternoon on Jim Hynes Stadium in the rubber match of a three-game series played between the first-place Black Bears and Highlanders this weekend.
Prior to the game, NJIT honored its seven seasons and six graduate students with a pre-game ceremony.Â
After a scoreless first inning, the Black Bears loaded the bases with no outs in the second and score a pair to take an early 2-0 lead.
Maine's starting pitcher Noah Lewis continued to shutdown the Highlanders offense, while the Black Bears scored three more runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 5-0.
A solo home run in the fifth made the score 6-0 and it stayed that way as neither team plated a run over the final four and a half innings.Â
NJIT had three hits as
Andrew Elcock,
Kevin Putsky, and
Ty Sallie each had a single.Â
Aaron Park pitched a pair of shutout innings out of the bullpen, while
Brandon Peterson pitched one scoreless frame.
The Highlanders will look to get back into the winning column next weekend when they hit the road for their final regular season series of the season at UAlbany. First pitch on Thursday is slated for 6pm.
