UNION, NJ - The NJIT baseball team was defeated 7-3 by visiting Bryant in America East Conference action on Sunday morning at Jim Hynes Stadium.
Bryant got on the scoreboard first with a run-scoring double in the second inning, but the Highlanders quickly tied things up in the third inning when
Luke Longo singled home
Ty Sallie with an RBI double in the third.
The Highlanders took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth as
Ray Ortiz hit into a fielders choice that scored
Cole Fleming, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame.
Bryant jumped back in front in the sixth, drawing a leadoff walk to open the inning and following it up with a two-run home run to take a 3-2 lead.
The Bulldogs added three runs in the seventh to take a comfortable 7-2 advantage before ultimately winning the contest by four runs.
NJIT's third run came in the seventh on an RBI from
Kevin Putsky.
Austin Francis led the Highlanders offense with a pair of hits while
Brandon Peterson was the team's top pitcher, tossing a pair of innings and allowing just one run.
NJIT will look to rebound on Tuesday when it travels to The Bronx to take on Fordham. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
