WEST POINT, NY - The NJIT men's tennis team improved to 13-4 this season with a 4-1 victory over Army West Point on Sunday.
"We were very happy to pull off the victory today," said Head Coach
Marco Matteucci."
The Black Knights took two of three doubles matches to go ahead 1-0, but NJIT rallied in singles play and won all four completed matches to earn the victory.
"Unfortunately, we had some match points in doubles play that slipped away, but it was great to come back and win five of the six first sets in singles and keep the momentum going to get the four points we needed."
Amine El Kholti and
Nejc Skorjanc won their match in second doubles and each also took home singles victories at the number two and three positions, respectively.
Pablo Perez Ramos and
Josh Smith were also victorious in singles play.
"There is nothing easy about the rest of our schedule so we need to stay tough," added Matteucci. "We need to improve the details and stay hungry!"
The Highlanders return to action next weekend with a pair of matches in Philadelphia, taking on Temple on Friday and St. Joseph's on Saturday.Â
