WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season on Sunday, falling to host Monmouth 4-0.
The Highlanders conclude their regular season with a 15-7 record, while the Hawks improved to 16-5 with the victory.
"Tough loss for us today," explained Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "We battled in doubles, trying some new pairs ahead of the conference tournament and although we were close, we couldn't get over the hump."
Monmouth went ahead 1-0 thanks to a pair of doubles victories in the top two flights. NJIT's
Nejc Skorjanc and
Josh Smith were victorious at the third doubles spot, winning 6-2.
"In singles, we competed well, but our emotions got the best of us," added Matteucci.Â
Monmouth was victorious at the top three singles spots to clinch the 4-0 victory.
"The guys wanted this one and if we didn't play to clinch the match, the score certainly would've been closer," said Matteucci. "We need to stay healthy and get ready for next week's Southland Conference Tournament. #RollTech!
