Box Score NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team suffered its first home loss of the season on Saturday, falling 4-3 to visiting Georgetown in the Naimoli Tennis Center.
NJIT is now 12-4 on the season, while Georgetown saw its record improve to 8-6.
"This was certainly a hard-fought match," said second year Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "Once again doubles came down to a difference of a few missed opportunities. We started slow in some singles spots, but we kept up as the match progressed to make it a close one"
Georgetown got on the scoreboard first taking a 1-0 lead after taking two of three doubles matches. All three doubles matches were tight, but NJIT's third pairing of
Samuel Townes and
Wil Jenkins were the Highlanders only winners as the duo was victorious by a score of 6-4.
Pablo Perez Ramos continued his tremendous season with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win at first singles to improve to 14-1 on the season. The Highlanders also got wins at the fifth and sixth positions from
Oscar Callo von Platen and
Josh Smith, respectively.Â
"We just need to take care of the smaller details that can keep us in control of the points in each game," added Matteucci. "On to the next one!
The Highlanders return to the court next Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to take on St. Joseph's. First serve is slated for 12pm.
