Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight With Shutout Of Villanova

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT women's tennis team won its third consecutive match on Saturday evening, sweeping the visiting Villanova Wildcats, 7-0, at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility. 

The first win of February for NJIT (3-1) played out eerily similar to its last win of January against Rider, with the Highlanders taking two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 advantage and handling all six singles flights in straight sets. Villanova (1-2) made it interesting early by winning at No. 3 doubles but the Highlanders took care of business at the top two positions to secure the point. 

NJIT handled the top two single flights with relative ease as well, as Shivani Ingle and Joleta Budiman gave the Highlanders a 3-0 lead while allowing the fewest number of games in their victories. The match was officially clinched at No. 4 as Shalom Salvi rallied back from a first-set, three-game deficit (down 1-4) to win her opening set 7-5 and eventually take the flight in two.

NJIT will wrap up its five-match homestand with a two-day, three-match weekend: Friday, Feb. 10 vs FDU and Saturday, Feb. 11 against Delaware & Wagner.
