NEWARK, NJ–NJIT swept visiting Saint Francis U, 3-0, Friday afternoon in men's volleyball non-conference action inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
NJIT won in straight sets – 25-19, 25-23 and 25-23, moving above .500 (5-4) and improving to 3-1 inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. Saint Francis U still in search of its first win of the season falls to 0-7.
NJIT, which hit .330 for the match, was led by Jens Feldthus with 11 kills and Julian Meissner with 10. Feldthus combined for a .333 hitting percentage on 27 attempts with two errors while Meissner finished with a .300 hitting percentage on 20 attempts with four errors.
Setter Roque Nido piled up a match-high 27 assists to go along with five digs, four kills and two block assists.
Middle Carson Williams notched a .600 hitting percentage with six kills on 10 attempts with four block assists while Martin de Chavarria added four kills on six attempts for a .500 hitting percentage with two block assists.
Four different Highlanders – Feldthus, Nido, de Chavarria and Williams each recorded an ace in the win.
Defensively, Alessandro Negri led the Highlanders with eight digs followed by Nido (5), Meissner (5), Feldthus (4), Williams (4) and libero Christian Trevino (4).
Saint Francis U was paced by Blake Liprando's 11 kills while Nathan Zini registered 10. AJ Schmidt tallied 14 assists and libero Matthew Menosky added six digs.
The match on Sunday against Tusculum has been postponed due to COVID -19 related issues within the Tusculum men's volleyball program.
NJIT will break for a week and return to action next week, Friday, February 10 and welcome Cal State Northridge at 7pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Highlanders will close out its three-match homestand on Sunday, February 12, hosting George Mason in a EIVA Conference match at 2pm on ESPN+. In the first meeting of the season in Fairfax, Virginia, the Highlanders picked up a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Patriots.
