Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Defeated By Manhattan, 11-8

RIVERDALE, N.Y. — The NJIT men's lacrosse team closed out a two-game road week with a hard-fought 11-8 defeat against the Manhattan Jaspers Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park.

HIGHLIGHTS 1ST QUARTER
  • Manhattan (3-1) opened the game with a 4-0 surge before the Highlanders closed out the period with its first two scores of the game, both unassisted goals from Corry within two minutes of each other (3:36 and 1:51)
2ND QUARTER
  • The second saw Manhattan score two goals in the first five minutes (6-2) and hold off the NJIT offense until Wasitowski and Muscatella connected with under a minute left to trim the Jasper lead to 6-3. Unfortunately, Manhattan added a late goal with seven seconds left to push their lead back to four going into halftime, 7-3.
3RD QUARTER
  • NJIT played Manhattan even in the third quarter to stay within striking distance, literally going back-and-forth with the Jaspers throughout the frame. Every Manhattan goal (11:41, 10:19, and 8:01) was followed by an NJIT one (10:26 by Ryan Sininsky, 9:46 by Muscatella from Corry, 4:15 by Schreibeis).
4TH QUARTER
  • The Highlanders won their first quarter of the game, 2-1, to give them a 5-4 edge in the second half but Manhattan's four-goal buffer eventually proved enough to withstand NJIT's improvements and adjustments.
  • Manhattan netted their final goal at the 11:38 mark of the period while Wasitowski (1:22) and Muscatella (0:29) scored back-to-back goals within a minute to close out the game
OTHER NOTES
  • Muscatella matched his career-high with his three goals against Manhattan. The last time he produced a hat trick was at Marist on April 12, 2022.
  • With his three points on Saturday (2 G, 1 A), Owen Corry has extended his active scoring streak to 14 games (last ten of 2022, first four of 2023). The production run began at Army West Point on February 26, 2022.
  • In his 40th career game across four seasons at Robert Morris and this year at NJIT, Josh Schreibeis scored his first collegiate goal today.
  • Liam Brown has made at least 15 saves in three of four games this season and 10+ in all four.
  • Program Progress: After not scoring more than six goals and falling by an average of six goals in their first four all-time meetings, NJIT has worked to close the gap on their tri-state rivals, scoring seven or more goals in each of its last three meetings against Manhattan and trimming the game margins to an average of less than two goals (1.66).
NEXT UP
NJIT returns home for the first of three straight in Newark. The Highlanders will face Wagner at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium on Saturday, March 4 at 1 p.m.
