Box Score NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team improved its season-opening winning streak to a program-record seven matches on Saturday as it defeated visiting Drexel 5-2 at the Naimoli Tennis Center.

NJIT swept doubles play to go ahead 1-0 and won four of six in singles as Oscar Callo von Platen clinched the win after returning from injury at #4 singles.

"We started off with excellent doubles play against a good Drexel team," explained Head Coach Marco Matteucci.

Pablo Perez Ramos and Nejc Skorjanc opened singles play with wins at #1 and #2, respectively, to put the Highlander in front 3-0 and one win away from clinching the match.

"Pablo and Nejc kept the momentum going into singles play," added Matteucci. "Credit to Drexel for fighting 'til the end, but I'm very happy we came away with the win."

Perez Ramos won 6-4, 6-1, while Skorjanc was victorious 7-5, 6-2. Callo von Platen clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at #4 and Wil Jenkins added another win at #5 via a 7-6, 6-1 win.

NJIT will look to improve the winning streak to eight in a row on Sunday when it hosts FDU. First serve is slated for 1pm back in the Naimoli Tennis Center.

"Tomorrow we have another challenge against a good FDU squad," concluded Matteucci. "We are going to rest up and get ready for another fight!"
