NEW HAVEN, CT / PHILADELPHIA - The NJIT men's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule over the weekend as the squad split up and played at events hosted by Yale and Drexel.
Pablo Perez Ramos,
Wil Jenkins,
Nejc Skorjanc, and
German Lopez Andujar headed north to compete at Yale and put together an impressive weekly against mostly Ivy League opponents.Â
Perez Ramos and Skorjanc each went 2-1 in singles play at the Yale Invitational, while Jenkins and Lopez Andujar each earned one singles victory.
In doubles play, NJIT paired Skorjanc with Lopez Andujar and Jenkins along side Perez Ramos. Each Highlanders doubles pair won three of four matches.Â
NJIT also sent five student-athletes to Drexel as
Oscar Callo von Platen,
Ashwin Kanetkar,
Pablo Salar Carrera,
Pavel Petrov, and
Severin Risan all competed in Philadelphia against opponents from Monmouth and Drexel.
Petrov and Callo von Platen highlighted the match against Drexel for NJIT as each won in singles play and then teamed up for a 6-3 doubles victory.
"This Fall was definitely a successful one," explained Head Coach
Marco Matteucci. "we saw a lot of great competition and significant wins against top players in the regions and made it deep into every tournament we played. The team is excited with how we are playing and we look forward to the spring!"
