NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT Highlanders were looking to get their 1st MCHC win after not playing last week due to Yale canceling the game last weekend. That game will be rescheduled at a later date, check NJIT Hockey social media accounts for any updates concerning that game.
Last night's game was against the Western Connecticut State University Wolves and they won by the score of 9-4 at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House. The Highlanders are now 0-4 in MCHC play and still have yet to win a game in ACHA play.
NJIT got off to a great start by scoring first when Rohan Ganta got his 4th goal of the season over 5 minutes into the period. Ryan Downey and Matthew Francescutto got the helpers.
The Wolves would respond less than a minute later to tie the game. The Highlanders would regain the lead past the halfway mark when Eric Cacdac scored his 1st ever goal with Highlanders. Brendan Clayton would have the lone assist. WCSU took the lead after the 1st intermission by getting 2 goals in a 1:29 span late in the period.
The 2nd period was an uneventful and scoreless period and the score remained a 3-2 lead for the Wolves. The 3rd period is where the game got away from NJIT as the WCSU scored 6 goals in the period. Francescutto got his 3rd goal of the season on the power play with Downey and Ganta with the assists at 7:58. The 4th goal for the Highlanders was scored by Brenden Smith (1st of the season) at 4:32. Downey and Ganta once got the helpers. Noah Gibb made 29 saves in the evening.
